Devices & Services > Finnish Meteorological Institute adds a location by latitude/ longitude, or by searching for a place name directly. Reads the Finnish Meteorological Institute's (FMI) own free, unauthenticated "Open Data" API, the fourth of Athena's weather integrations and the only one built against a WFS/XML API rather than JSON REST - and, by far, the most detailed.

What you get

Current conditions come from the nearest real weather station's own live observations, not a forecast model: temperature, humidity, pressure, wind speed and gust, cloud cover, precipitation and its own intensity, visibility, dew point, and (where a station reports it) snow depth and present-weather code. A 5-day forecast adds daily min/max temperature, FMI's own numeric weather-symbol code, precipitation probability, feels-like, max wind gust, dew point, max UV index, and visibility - each forecast field only appears on the days it actually came back, since some of them aren't always available that far out. Read-only sensors, working with Dashboard cards, History, and Automations exactly like every other integration.

Hourly forecast and radar

The location's own detail page adds two views nothing else here has: an hourly forecast you can browse day by day (today plus the next four), fetched fresh each time rather than stored as sensors, and an animated weather radar centered on the location - a marker pin over a real street map (place names, roads, region borders, via OpenStreetMap), with play/pause and a scrub slider over the last hour, just like FMI's own website. The intensity legend sits beside the map rather than over it, so it never covers real radar data; defaults to a localized ±30km view, with a slider (next to the frame-scrub slider) to zoom out to as far as ±250km. The Radar card can also be added to any Dashboard as its own card, playback controls included.

Air quality, lightning, and sea level

Three more products, each added automatically where they apply: air quality (CO, NO, NO2, O3, SO2, PM10, PM2.5) from FMI's own SILAM dispersion model, which - unlike the real air-quality station network - has a number for anywhere in Europe; lightning strikes in the last hour, with a count and the distance to the nearest one; and sea level and water temperature, which only appear for a genuinely coastal location, near one of Finland's own mareograph stations.

Coverage and polling

Current conditions and the extra products above are Finland-only (station-based) or otherwise distance-gated; forecasts cover the wider Nordic/Baltic region; air quality covers all of Europe. Polls every 15 minutes.
