Sonos
Monitors and controls real Sonos speakers over their own local UPnP/SOAP API (port 1400) - no cloud, no Sonos app account needed. A separate integration from IKEA SYMFONISK, even though SYMFONISK is Sonos hardware under the hood - a genuine Sonos speaker and a SYMFONISK speaker show up as two distinct integrations, matching how they're actually branded and sold.
Adding a speaker
No pairing wizard - Sonos's own local API has no authentication, so a speaker is added by name and address (port defaults to 1400), verified by a real status call before it's saved. Also auto-discoverable via SSDP on your network. Live state is polled every 5 seconds.
What's exposed
- Playback state, play/pause, stop, next/previous.
- Volume (controllable) and mute.
- Now-playing track title, artist, and album, read from the speaker's own metadata.
- Play mode - normal, repeat all/one, shuffle (with or without repeat).
- Bass, treble, and loudness.
Works with Dashboard cards, History, and Automations exactly like every other integration.
Deliberately out of scope, one consistent boundary: control what's already playing, not manage it. No multi-speaker grouping or group volume, no favorites/playlist/music-service browsing, no alarms, no line-in switching, no soundbar-specific EQ (night mode, speech enhancement).
Turning a speaker into a Spotify Connect device
A Sonos speaker's own Media player detail page has a "Spotify Connect" card - enabling it makes that speaker show up in the actual Spotify app's own "Connect to a device" picker, independently of Athena's own Spotify account integration. See Spotify for the full picture. Requires Spotify Premium.
